Are The Best Wrinkle Cream Better Than Botox?

You may have come across anti-wrinkle cream ads that claim they are better than botox. I wish.

I’ve read many research studies on beauty products and I have yet to see one that works as quickly and as efficiently as Botox does.

The best that wrinkle creams can do is reduce the size and depth of wrinkles after a few months of use but nothing as dramatic as Botox does.

And you know what? That’s just something you have to accept.  You’re getting older. The best that you can do is take care of your face with sunscreen to stop any further damage and avoid premature wrinkles. You can also use the best anti-wrinkle products to further slow the down fine lines and wrinkles.

Now if you’re not happy with that, then you may have to start considering using Botox or going under the knife. But if Botox or surgery is out of the question, then start by using the best wrinkle reducing cream. Here are some tips.

Choosing Your Anti Wrinkle Cream

Anti-aging creams are not all made in the same. With the plethora of ingredients that claim to be the next big thing in skin care, finding one to use to use for yourself is a tad confusing.

To help you buy a wrinkle cream, here are some ingredients which independent research have shown to have great anti-aging properties.

  1. Peptides – Peptides work wonders when it comes to anti-aging. In fact, many of the wrinkle creams for sale in the beauty aisle will have a peptide or two as their ingredient. The most popular peptide in face creams now is Matrixyl and matrixyl 3000. This is an ingredient in beauty creams such as Olay’s Regenerist line and Excel-Skincare’s Renewal Complex. You can also buy pureMatrixyl-3000 serum.
  2. Shea Butter – For those who prefer natural ingredients, Shea butter has long been known to help with many skin problems and is great as an anti-aging cream. You can apply it directly to your face, you can mix it with other anti-aging properties as shown in our face cream recipe, or you can buy a ready-made face cream with shea butter – check out L’occitane!
  3. Retinol – This is one ingredient that dozens of independent research have shown to greatly help with reducing fine lines, refining pores and smoothing skin out.
  4. Alpha Hydroxy acid for exfoliation. Exfoliation is key to signalling the skin’s collagen to do some “work”. Exfoliation boosts up the collagen’s production level, thereby showing new, younger-looking and better looking skin.

Important: When you’re in your teens or early 20’s a good facial moisturizer and daily sunscreen is usually enough to prevent premature wrinkles. As you get older, you may need to be a bit more aggressive with your anti aging routine.

In your 30’s you should consider layering creams when possible. For example, I have a face cream with peptides – this I use daily. However, I also use retinol under this cream. And then during the winter, I stop using retinol for a month and then do a home chemical peel with alpha hydroxy acid such as the MDskincare Alpha beta peel.
