Dark circles have been always been many men and women’s top skin care problem. However, it’s only very recently when the beauty industry has given it the attention it deserves.
However, before big companies started bombarding us with a hundred and one kinds of creams and serum, many natural treatments have already been used worldwide.
Some people swear that these are effective home remedies for dark circles under the eyes. Others claim they don’t work at all.
My take on this is that the results could greatly vary depending on the reason behind your dark under eye circles. As I have mentioned in previous articles, extreme darkening around the eyes will likely need a strong over-the-counter (OTC) cream or the help of a trained doctor.
At the very least, you can try one of these home remedies and see if it works for you.
Using Cucumber As A Remedy For Dark Circles
- Cut 2 slices of cucumber crosswise.
- Lie down. Put a slice on each eye and let it sit there for about 10 minutes (and you can do some meditation too while you’re at it!)
Michelle Phan in the video below shows another way to apply cucumber on your face. Simply mash the cucumber (or blend it) and then use the water for your cucumber “eye patches”. Check it out.
Herbal Home Remedies
There are also herbal home remedies that you can do at home. Many of these treatments moisturize and lighten the skin and help constrict the blood vessel to lighten the color under the eyes.
These usually include the mixture of a lightening and cooling ingredient.
- Lemon and Cucumber :Be extremely careful that you don’t use too much lemon or your stinging eyes will not forgive you for it.
- Cucumber and Tomato
- Spoons: Yes, spoons. Put them in the freezer and put them in your eyes upon waking up.
- Apply virgin coconut oil every night.
- Keep those green tea bags. Put them in the fridge to cool. Once cool, put one on each eye. The caffeine in the green tea and the cold bag will help lighten the dark skin around your eyes.
Important: You will need to apply these herbal home remedies daily. Some people who’ve been successful with these treatments say it took about two weeks for the skin to start to lighten. Some said it was a just in a few days. So you will have to see for yourself how long it will take for your particular case.
Also, these home remedies are not a permanent solution. Once you stop using them, the dark circles will come back again especially if you’re genetically predisposed to have them.
Home Remedies For Genetic Dark Circles
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this is one of the most difficult dark circle problems to have and I have yet to personally see someone who’s had genetic dark circle problems which he/she got rid of by simply using a home remedy or natural treatment.
Still, if you want to give it a try, use some of the treatments on this page and if you get rid of yours, do tell us about it.
Not A Remedy but An Important Caveat
Many dark circles under the eyes are caused by hyperpigmentation and aging. You can easily prevent premature aging and dark spots by looking after your face well.
Don’t stay in the sun for too long. If you do, make sure you have proper sun protection. This practice will go a long way in treating under eye dark circle and other skin care problems.Get rid of hyperpigmentation, black spots and lighten skin color!
