Looking For The Best Facial Moisturizer for dry skin

I have normal skin and for most of the year, I feel lucky not to have to worry about drying out or getting too oily.

But at about February every year, I notice my whole body drying up like the Sahara desert. I know the culprit: I can’t help but take extremely hot showers. Combine that with the indoor heating and the harsh cold winters, and I’ve just made the perfect recipe for dry skin.

So it’s normal for me to panic about my skin  around this time of the year. Spring is not too far away. And because I love to wear sundresses and flip-flops, I know that I have to do something about my dry skin.

So what do you need to get your skin back in shape?

A good moisturizer is a good place to start. But that’s not enough. I find that using more than one product when your skin needs rescuing works the best.

Follow the daily routine below and you should get your beautiful glowing skin back in no time.

Evening Routine

1) Face washing

Wash your face with a gentle cleanser or milk based cleansers. Also use olive oil to get rid of makeup and dirt.

Note: My sister and I have different skin types and we both swear on our Clarisonic Pro system. I know it just seems like an “electric toothbrush” for the face, but it works wonders. My skin feels smoother and brighter since I’ve started using it.

2) Exfoliating

Two or three times a week, exfoliate. If you can, use the MD Skincare Alpha Beta Peel. This is a chemical peel that you can do at home. I use this peel during the winter too – I love how it lightens the dark spots on my face.

3) Hydrating Serum

Once your face is clean, apply hyaluronic serum. Hyaluronic acid is one of the best ingredients when it comes to dry skin. This penetrates well into the skin and keeps the skin moisturized the whole day. It retains water very well and most importantly supports collagen production.

4) Facial Moisturizer

Put on  a thick moisturizer that does a good job with trapping and sealing moisture in the skin. Here are some of the best moisturizers for dry skin:

  • Cetaphil Moisturizing cream
  • Eucerin dry skin facial moisturizer
  • Skinceuticals Emollience Rich, Restorative Moisturizer For Normal Or Dry Skin

Alternatively, you can make your own face moisturizer using our face cream recipe for dry skin.

That’s it!

If you have dry skin, you’ll be happy to know that most of the time, dry skin is easily remedied by using the right products and changing your lifestyle.

Some things you need to be extra careful with when you have dry skin:

  • Stay away from hot showers
  • Harsh soaps are a big no-no. Use soap with honey if you can find one. Even better, don’t use soap every time you take a shower – you’re not really that dirty are you?  🙂
  • In the winter, use a humidifier in the house.

Lastly, don’t forget to moisturize your eyes too! We use Lumiere Eye cream, but feel free to use your own favorite cream.

Note: If after using the proper creams and changing your lifestyle, you still have extremely dry skin, then go see your dermatologist. There might be an underlying medical reason for it.

Get rid of hyperpigmentation, black spots and lighten skin color!
