Taking Care Of Your Microdermabrasion Machine

microdermabrasion machineCongratulations! You now own a microdermabrasionmachine for your own use.

Whichever microdermabrasion unit you have, it should come with an operating manual and information on where or how to contact the manufacturer or seller if you have any some problems.

Each machine will have very specific before and after care.

Some will need filters to regularly change while others do not. Have a look at your manual and carefully read  the instructions.

If you want your home micro dermabrasion machine to last for a long time, then look after it well and it should work for many years.

General Guidelines For Microdermabrasion Equipment Care

  1. A good microdermabrasion unit comes in a container that protects the wands, filters, and other accessories. Use them. Right after using the machine, clean it, replace filters if needed, clean the wand and put them all back in the container. It takes time but I can’t stress enough how important this is.
  2. Many of these units are made in other countries. Make sure the unit’s voltage is compatible with your house’s electrical supply.
  3. At some point, your diamond tip will feel like it no longer works as it used to. This usually means that small skin particles have become embedded in it. This is normal. This means your wand now needs some cleaning. The recommended way to clean this is by using an ultrasonic cleaner – a machine that uses ultrasound to clean jewelry. You can buy it online at Amazon from about $50. Alternatively, take the diamond tip to a store where they can clean it for a minimal fee. Here’s a video of what an ultrasonic cleaner looks like:

More On Cleaning Your Unit

Alternatively, some machines are less dainty and you will probably notice that cleaning the heads does not need this ultrasonic cleaning. Some are cleaned with the use of alcohol and a soft brush. Before you do this, though, make sure that it really does say this on the unit itself. Better safe than sorry.

Here’s Lilian from ExpertVillage who cleans her microdermabrasion wand with a detergent and a wire brush. She’s using this for a professional grade machine.

If you find the your unit is not working as well as it should, call the manufacturer or supplier first. They are often happy to tell you what could be wrong and can give advice about possible reasons that could be causing the problem.

Store the unit in a clean dry place.
